About Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC)

The Woodlawn History Center welcomes visitors to SERC and provides an entry point for your visit, a history exhibit about the site and an introduction to today's Smithsonian science. Woodlawn is the oldest building in the Smithsonian’s collection (1735). SERC has several miles of walking trails, including along waterways and the Woodlawn History Trail. SERC also has public water access to launch non-motorized boats and visitors can see fish and turtle tanks in the Reed Education Center atrium.
