Since 2008, Chesapeake Crossroads and heritage partners across Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, MD have hosted Maryland Day Celebration events, often for free or just $1. Now entering its 19th year, the event has become a dedicated time to celebrate local history, showcase our unique sites and attractions. and its become an informal launch of the Spring heritage tourism season.
This year, we encourage the theme of TRANPORTATION, in honor of the founding of the B & O Railroad 200 years ago, in 1827. We hope you are “MOVED” to join us in celebrations during Maryland Day 2027 (March 19-25).

Tips for Planning Your Event or Program
There is no right or wrong way for your organization to celebrate Maryland Day– In fact, it is the diversity of sites, stories, and experiences that we hope to highlight throughout the Chesapeake Crossroads. Here are a few programming or event ideas you might consider, some suggestions for collaboration with other partners, and thoughts on the types of audiences you could attract by offering different types of events or programs.
Why participate in Maryland Day Celebration 2027?
We recognize that organizations may have different goals in participating in Maryland Day Celebration 2027, and different capacities to participate. We encourage you to think about your “Why?” as you formulate your programs and events.
If you rely heavily on volunteers, let us help you build a program that packs punch, but is perhaps less interactive or more self-directed. Maybe a virtual tour might be just the sweet spot?
Look to your neighbors and colleagues to share resources, budgets, volunteers, and expertise to create more ambitious events and program offerings. You can co-host with a nearby site, cross-promote each other's events, and even leverage each other's audiences and marketing channels for greater reach. You could even reach out to local businesses to seek their support and partnerships.
What’s my Audience?
As you brainstorm and plan out your programs and events, think about what audiences you want to attract, and the outcomes and impact you hope to have. All of our events will be tagged and searchable to help visitors plan a meaningful Maryland Day Celebration visit, so knowing what types of visitors you might attract will help when you submit your events.
